Any definition of a magickal or metaphysical term can go here- we should all submit them so that they can be added into a massive glossary. Please follow the following format when posting definitions.

Term: Chakra
Definition: One of seven energy centers in the body. These centers relate to different parts of the body and mind, and need to be kept open and in balance.

As you can see, I placed the chakras article in the more in depth info part of the form. If there is no article, just put N/A (Not Applicable).

Term: Witchcraft
Definition: Altering your reality using one's own will and energy, or gathered energy.

Term: Witch
Definition: One who practices witchcraft. This term applies to both men and women.

Term: Psi
Definition: Psi is a Westernized term for energy.

Term: Qi
Definition: Chinese term for energy.

Term: Chi
Definition: Westernized form of Qi- means the same thing.

Term: Energy
Definition: Energy is what we use to affect our surroundings. In fact, our life energy is what gives us our very mortality. Life energy and natural energy is replenishable, and can be gathered and put towards whatever our objective is.

Term: Spell
Definition: Spells are the words and procedures we create to obtain an outcome. Spells involve manipulating energy and directing it, via words, and can involve candles, incense, herbs, crystals, and many other tools.

Term: Wicca
Definition: Wicca, in it's current definition, is a Pagan religious tradition started by Gerald Gardner. There have been many different offshoots of Wicca in the past 50 years, but it originated with him.

Term: Wiccan
Definition: A Wiccan is a man or woman who practices Wicca.

Term: Neo-Wicca
Definition: Neo-Wicca is the popularized, eclectic, Neo-Pagan version of Wicca. Neo-Wicca is often represented as "Whatever you want it to be", and is presented as normal, Traditional Wicca. The two are different traditions, however, and neither is inferior to the other. Some people who are Neo-Wiccans eventually decide to simply call themselves Pagan to avoid confusion.

Definition: Somebody who practices Neo-Wicca

Term: Pagan
Definition: Paganism is an umbrella term for a non Judeo-Christian or Ibrahamic religion. Paganism encompasses many, many religions, including Wicca of all forms, Druidry, and many others.

Term: Occult
Definition: From the Latin word Occultus, meaning clandestine, hidden, or secret- Occultus was used to refer to the "knowledge of the hidden". Occult is now used to represent "knowledge of the paranormal" or "knowledge of the metaphysical" in common American English.

Term: Metaphysics/Metaphysical
Definition: Metaphysics refers to principles of reality that transcend those of any traditional science. Typically metaphysical practices focus on one's state of being and one's relationship to the world or cosmos. Metaphysics can also encompass the study of alternate realities and beings from those realities, or the study of the occult and magick.

Now I'm gonna think up some more, and make more work for myself! lol


Term: Astral Projection
Definition: A separation of your astral body and your physical body that allows you to travel freely within this world and others.

Term: Tarot
Definition: Tarot cards are a tool usually used in divination or self reflection. There are usually around 78 cards in a deck, but some decks are different.

Term: Divination
Definition: The act of 'divining' the future. Can be done using many tools and many methods.

Term: Third Eye
Definition: The chakra located on your forehead, a little bit above the point right between your eyes. This is usually referred to as the source of all someone's psychic powers or abilities, and some people claim that they can see energy and spirits using their third eye.

Term:Magic
Definition: Typically used to refer to stage magic, but some people use it interchangeably with magick.

Term: Magick
Definition: Used to refer to real magick as opposed to stage magic. Once again, some people use them interchangeably.

Term: Mythology
Definition: Usually used in traditional schooling/education to refer to the myths and superstitions of old cultures. It also can refer to creatures or deities that are thought to be fake- for example, many people consider the Egyptian and Greek deities to be just a part of the mythology and history of those areas. Many creatures, such as dragons, gryphons, hydra, etc are also considered to be myths.

Term: Wand
Definition: Made out of almost any material imaginable, wands are used to direct energy in spells and rituals.

Term: Athame
Definition: An athame is a ritual knife, it represents the masculine component in rituals and is usually used to cast circles and direct energy. It is almost never used to cut, but can be used to make the gesture of cutting things apart symbolically.

Term: Boline
Definition: A Boline is a crescent shaped ritual knife that is used for cutting strings, herbs, anything involved with the ritual that actually needs to be cut. Herbs that are being harvested for magickal use are typically cut with a boline if there is one available.

Term: Psi Ball
Definition: Also called a chi ball, energy ball etc, psi balls are commonly used to practice energy manipulation and they can also be used to contain energy. Psi balls are commonly programmed and used to send healing, attunements, etc over distance.
