Name: Isis

Other Names: Aset, Ashet

Associations: Femininity, rebirth, compassion, magic, the mother nurturer.

Isis was considered to be a child of Ra along with her 4 siblings; Horus (The Elder), Nephthys, Set and Osiris. She became the wife of Osiris and they ruled over Egypt together. Set, however, was extremely jealous and plotted to kill Osiris. Isis, using her magic, was able to resurrect him and conceive Horus. To protect her child she travelled to a swamp and was protected by scorpions.

Myth: Isis wanted to resurrect Osiris but to do so she needed to learn magic. It is said she did this by tricking Ra into revealing his name to her and, thus, revealing his magical knowledge. She got a ‘poisonous’ snake to bite him and told him she could save him if he told her his name.
